Ive searched on honda tech, but maybe im not useing the right search terms. I want to shave off my door moldings, but keep the indent. SO i will need to get rid of the holes. will there be any problem with bondo cracking/flaking etc?

I've talked to the paint job guy and he said the only real good way to do it is to take my car to a autoshop/machine shop and have them fabricate a piece of metal to fit in the indent if I wanted to have my whole door panels shaved(without the indent). BUt, obviously that will be quiet expensive, and heavy? He's not reall enthused about filling the holes with bondo, he said they will have a durability issue. But, i've seen many hatches and coupes and what not on here with it done, so opinions please! thanks in advance

 

i was wanting to do this real bad myself and ended up buying some jdm thin side moldings

 

naw, it shouldnt crack if u do it right...i did mine wit no experience, i juss watch and copy lol...but use bondo glass, i think thats wat it called, then after that use regular bondo and bondo over the bondo glass...it should give u a strong layer...lotta work if u have to use hand tools hahaha

 

thanks, i'll look into the bondo glass stuff.... ill just pay maaco to fill those holes...

 

i cut up a old fender into 1x1 squares and attached them with 3m body panel adhesive, it worked really well, my brother welded his closed, i wouldnt trust the bondo to hold up very long its not made for filling holes

 

3m panel bond is the best, no warpage from welding but just as strong

although the best bet would be the hardest road, to actualli get small enough pieces of metal and weld them in, grind it somewhat smooth, and then bondo to make it flush...if you wanna do it the lazy way ive been told to use fiberglass once you bare metal the area you want to shave, then some bondo right over that to make it flush. either way u go, your goina spend money on repainting the area.

thats what made me worry about shaving the holes, so i just bought jdm side mouldings for 150. or, if your car is black u can use electric tape

 

Use kitty hair to fill and bondo to smooth. Its the easiest way and would be very durable. That is how I molded my body kit over two years ago. Still no cracks or anything. Use the stuff with the most fiber in it.
