Default How to identify if a B18C engine in Civic?

Hello. I need to know where to find a block ID casting/ significant ID marks to ID a B18C engine installed in a Civic. I'm looking at a 93 Civic EX tomorrow that supposedly has a 99 GSR engine in it. The guy said it's a B18C1 (Shouldn't it be a B18C5 if from a 99?) Anyhow, Q's like this (and making sure it's not the stock EX engine) prompts me to ask.

If this car really does have the B18C...I'll be gold. I' was getting ready to order one for my 94 Civic. This would save much $$ and effort....especially shipping to Hawaii!!

Appreciate any input.

No B18C1 is correct for a GSR motor. A B18C5 is a Type R motor.

Whether the motor IS a B18C1 is a whole different story that you're going to have to check out. The embedded "B18C1" or whichever motor it is, is usually located in the front of the block right next to the Tranny.

That's some shitty writing.

Joking.

Not to jack this thread or anything.. but someone want to explain the difference between GSR and ITR real quick?

Doesn't end there.

A B18c5 comes with a better intake manifold (stud pattern for the manifold is different between the 2 motors), the b18c1 has secondary butterflies in their intake manifold. The B18C1 has a smaller combustion chamber then the B16 and B18C5 heads. The b18c5 comes with high compression pistons then the B18c1.

Doesn't end here either.

Type-R motors rev higher, have less friction, and there handbuilt. They are overall just better, and thus cost a lot more.

The B18C5 is the ITR motor, and yeah, better stuff like thinner intake valve stems, better exhaust system, etc.

And also dual valvesprings to allow it to safely rev higher, it can go on

Too much money for a small gain though, I would build a poor mans hype r before I dropped 5k on a C5.

You can type with ms paint. i dont know why the guy chose to use the mouse, and using a sohc engine pic would confuse a lot of newbies.
