Replacing Deck and Speakers. Need Audio Guru help!
I'm looking to replace the deck (head unit?) and the speakers in my 94 hatchback. I got a few questions though. Since i like to listen to my music loud (check avatar, lol) i want good bass in the back. what are my options? i don't want the whole amp/sub **** going on. just replace the factiory stuff is all. What rear seakers will give me the good bass i want and what fronts will give me the mid/high i need? Also, can the factory wiring be used or do i need to replace it to?
Thanx,

if u want bass, subs are the way to go. 6x9s would give u the most bass but idk if ur 94 comes with 6x9s or not...anyways regular speakers are made for highs and mids, yes they can produce bass but not as well as even a single small subwoofer could produce.
if u replace the speakers ur going to need an amp. a deck and speakers isnt going to cut it if u want it to be loud.

Well he's not the only knowledgeable person here
.
You are in luck...its the perfect time to get deals (at least from
the independent/mom & pop shops)! CES just wrapped up and
they will be moving older product to free upsome buying dollars.
Heres an idea:
- deck with (2) F&R or (3) F&R&Sub,MP3 capability,Sat radio capability (if you
want. Always think ahead...your system can grow with you)
- 6.5 components or integrated coaxial
- 4 channel amp with 35-75 watts/rms
- sub single (2) 8",(1) 10",(1) 12"
- rear spkrs are an option
I think a system like this is very affordable, flexiable and will
have a great sound to it. Have fun.

haha, im not saying he is
.
hes just got the perfect setup without using any amps or subs. just a headunit and aftermarket speakers. i researched more on what he has done, and its amazing how much better sound you can produce with insulation and boxing.
that just seemed to fit this guy's question more.
on my part though, i went with a 4-channel amp, and it sounds incredible.
look for your deals on the internet too tippy. you can get stuff for less than half of what retail stores charge.

some kicker SSMB 6"s will fit in your rear factory location, but you will hve to seal the area up real good (read dynamat the hell outta it)
match that with some nice commponent set like mb quart premium 6" (pce-216) and a healthy 4 channel amp (approx 100x4 rms) and you will have some decent low end with out having to do a sub in a box (nothing will replace a sub though).

I also agree that you need to think ahead, and unless you, [Tippyman98 are absolutely sure that down the road you are not going to want to upgrade your system, get the HU that has the capability to do so, it's not going to cost you anymore anyway, and no matter what you want to end up with, [now or later] the HU is the most important part of your system, everything from control, SQ and the ability to build/expand your system without replacing the HU will depend on the HU you pick now, and a "high power" good quality HU will have the 3 sets of pre outs you would need to expand your system at no added cost anyway.
As you are looking for just a HU and speakers, try this, find the HU you want, install it, you can do the speakers anytime. audioroach is correct, now is the best time to buy, EG: I bet you will be able to get last years Alpine HUs from an authorized retail dealer with full manufacturer's warranty for the same price that none authorized online sites were selling them for.
I run an older Alpine HU, [CDA-7893] and 4 Eclipse 6.5" 2way speakers, the HU is installed using all the wires in the oem radio harness except the constant power, [the oem constant was for memory only] it can't supply the current that the internal amp of a high power aftermarket HU needs, I have the Alpines constant power wired directly to the batt., just like you would with any "off board" amp.
Although the speakers are Eclipses entry level 6.5" 2ways I spent a lot of time and energy installing them, to get the most out of them, and other then starting with what IMO was the best HU for the price at time, it is the speaker install that gives me the SQ and bass response that I have.
The front speakers are installed on custom MDF speaker mounts, [replacing the stock plastic ones] also extensive Dynamating has been done to the doors.
The rear speakers are mounted in custom MDF and fiberglass cabinets, [replacing the stock rear speaker mounts] some Dynamating was also done in the rear, both sets are in the stock locations and behind the stock grills, and use the stock speaker wire, except for a little 16ga inside the rear cabinets also the rear speaker tweeters have been disabled.
Although I am satisfied with the speakers, and even a little impressed, they are probably not the ones I would have picked, they were free from our Eclipse rep., [even a better deal then the Alpine HU I got direct from Alpine Canada].
I autocross my car so amps and subs are not an option, and besides over the many years of installing car audio I have had my fill of "boom cars", spending money making the car faster around corners is a lot more fun.

FCM...I think great minds think alike ( i've been installing since fall '83).
Wahts really scary is our systems are virtually identical !!! I have
eclipse 6.5" point source in my front doors mounted on mdf baffles, the rears
6.5 point sources are mounted in mdf/glass enclosures. I love my 7893..because
you're right,at the time its release it was thebest bang for the buck ( digital
Time alighnment rocks). The only difference in our systems are:
-xm sat radio
-(2) mtx *' subs in false floor
-mtx 300w mono block
Very simple design I think. Happy Installing

LOL...he's just responding to your statement. OEM locations are not the
best locations for sound quality... they are just where the factory decided
to stick them. If good sound is what you are seeking...you are gonna have to do
a lil work to achieve it.

Yes you can use the stock wiring, I do
There may be an improvement in SQ if you install aftermarket speaker wiring although IMO not enough to justify the work and expense.
And yes it is worth putting an aftermarket HU and speakers in your car.

Wut do you think? ?</TD></TR></TABLE> Well yea, LOL tell you what, forget the speakers, add the $140 to the $100 for the HU and go find a $240 Alpine HU, there should be some great deals on last years Alpines as the 06 models will start showing up at dealers very soon.
Use the stock speakers for now, you will be very surprised at how good they sound once the have a better HU, [then stock] driving them.
Or check out eBay http://electronics.search.ebay...tZ293 you may be able to pick up something here and still have some cash left over for some good speakers up front, and I would do it in that order HU first, then front speakers, then the rears.
