just as the title says,i just bought a new autometer boost gauge and now it says 17-18 vac on idle. is this normal with autometer or that?
u have any cams in the motor? with type R cams im idling at like 24 in/Hg. it should be idling higher than 17. whats ur compression ratio
what happens when its reading 10 in/hg....becuase mine is ready at 10 in/hg...id checked everything...did a compresson test(which is good),check for leaks(nothing leaking),change plugs, put new gasket on throttle body, and IM...it was reading 20-23 in/hg bout couple of days ago...havn't drove or touch the car since...

Higher = smoother idle and better running power brakes, lower is the opposite. Vaccum at idle is directly related to cam duration (read: overlap) engine displacement, and compression ratio. Higher makes for a smoother running motor. There is no "best range".
