autometer boost gauge
Hey guys I got a mechanical autometer ultra lite boost gauge that is not hooked up but it's sitting at 1 psi? Is this normal? Also anyone know where to find the 1/8" connector to connect the nylon hose to a T-fitting? Thanks.

Ive seen a bunch of gauges that read at 1psi. Its not supposted to do that - however it will prolly read just fine - just 1psi off.

Those gauges work fine - but will easily foo up if you "squeeze" the casing. I did this by accident on mine. The bourdon movement inside is very sensitive. If you GENTLY squeeze the casing at various points you should get the thing to move back to zero.....

I recommend not running the nylon line if at all possible. I'm running 1/4" ID fuel hose [eventually to be replaced with 1/4" ID silicone hose] for my gauge. Just need a brass female 1/4" NPT to 1/4" hose barb fitting and some teflon tape. If you need the fitting, I think I have a few left...let me know. 1/4" ID hose offers better gage response, and less problematic with kinking and holes than that piece of **** nylon hose they give you.

It'll read just fine, it is probably seeing a little friction inside, when you plug it into a vacuum source it'll be fine. After it sees vacuum it should go back to the "0" area. Mine was the same way and it corrected itself.
Autometer is garbage. I had the same problem with a boost gauge, sent it back. They gave me a new one and after a month it has the same problem that youre having.
if they're garbage like you and so many other people claim, why do pro racers use them in cars that cost well over the 100k's mark??? How come you don't see the pro's with a defi or a greddy?

The gauges do that after being shipped etc., once you hook it up and it reads vaccum it would be fine. Autometer is not garbage, and yes the gauges you buy for your car are the same the pros are using. No one i know including myself has ever had a problem with them, including several 7 and 8second cars. IMO paying double or triple the price of autometer gauges to get some that look better or have cool features is garbage. Use what works.

Greddy.
All three of my Autometer gauges sucked. Both of my GReddy gauges are awesome.
Just a coincidence I guess.

count me in as another boost gauge that read 1 psi. my gauge would sometimes also have the 2 brass threads in the back for mounting come loose and go back into the gauge, not allowing it to read vacuum. it was a big pain in the ***, but the gauge was free.
I hooked my gauge up to day and after driving around a lil' bit in vacuum it's almost back to normal. It's still slightly leaning towards 1 psi, but it's getting better. Thanks for the replies.
