Default Welding Internal Wastegate closed

I want to weld shut the internal wastegate thats on the 14B so I can use an external wastegate so I can keep solid boost and not be prone to spike. Does anyone know whats involved with this? Has anyone done it and have experience? Please discuss.

yup its hard to weld cast but very easily doable. I've heard to put the cast part in your case the exhaust housing in an oven to heat the metal up really good. Then weld while it's hot and then let it cool off slowly by decreasing the temp. in the oven over time. This is what i've heard,to get good welding results with cast. But when I welded my flapper shut, I just tacked with my mig welder all around the flapper. Worked great in my case. Didnt look the prettiest though, but my nice 3'' ss downpipe covered up the uglyness. Hope this helps you. -Nick

I did this once. We used a flux core welder and a disc of steel. Cranked the welder up all the way with slow wire feed and got it really hot. Had to grind the welds off obviously to fit the 5b flange but it worked. The previous owner had welded in a plug and it had fallen out because the welds not penetrate enough and they ground them off.
