Make sure your vss works, check your oil, and do you have a CEL? Faulty wiring?

Make sure you have a Vtec motor . Other than that anything that has to do with oil pressure, rpm, speed, and temperature could affect your vtec. I had some wiring go bad that went to my vehicle speed sensor once.

look for your engine code (in front of motor, near tranny, under dizzy). for a 98 ex, it should be d16y8 which is a vtec motor. How do you know vtec isn't working? with a stock intake, its hard to tell on a single cam.

98ex coupes do have vtec.

is your car all stock or has it been modified at all?
does your CEL light come on at all?

And what makes you say your vtec isn't working in the first place???
Are you sure you know how your engine should feel with vtec working?

no CEL ??
also vtec sounds different on different engines,
it's almost inaudible on sohc engines(urs) and it's very loud/noticeable on integras/dohc engines.

with just an intake, your not gonna be able to hear or feel vtec on a sohc. as long as you have so cels, that your vtec is working. make sure your engine is warmed up, enough oil pressure and oil itself, and your going fast enough (ie over 25 mph). I had to put exhaust, intake, header, cam, just to hear my vtec. and i can barely hear it and i dont even feel it

A cel is when the check engine light comes on. It will throw a code number. Then you need to figure out what is making the check engine light come on. If it is on, I would recommend taking it to auto zone or oreilys and they will read it for you.
