WHAT ARE SYMPTOMS OF A BAD AXLE!?!?!?!?!
so i bring my gsr in today to get a ny state inspection...my mechanic says the passenger axle is bad and needs a new one to pass. he wanted 160$ installed....i said expletive that i took it home....it drives fine, doesnt click ...the boots arent ripped....i am by no means a newb to this stuff....i know my **** but how could the mechanic say its busted if it drives fine and the axle seems intact? or is he pullin my leg and want money?
yeah thats been my past expeirience....i hd an auto ls integra an i KNEW the axle was broken **** would click and youd feel it.....this gsr however is the quietest ride in the world. there no clickn and i feel nothing....it also appears to be new...no ripped boots and ****. any more input is appreciateddd....thanks!
160 to fix it? that seems wrong if u ask me. For the axle a customer would be paying from 125-150 at least(depending on the shops mark-up), and labor for an axle is 1.0 hrs. (at 72.50 an hr here). So I think it should be closer to $200, at least. My assumption is if it is fine to you, its fine... as long as the boots arent torn, and it isnt clicking. My guess is he was trying to make a quick $160 and not do anything in the process... and when was the last time axles were included in state inspections? I dont know, I've never lived where one was needed, but I thought it was mostly emissions and ****.
