Default h23a3

My timing belt broke on my 1996 si about 2 months ago and i ordered a new h23 longblock from hmotorsonline, but they sent me an obd1 h23a3(european accord) which is supposed to be fully compatible with an h23a1. I did the necessary conversion to make an obd1 engine obd2...all of the wiring and sensors are now the same. When i put the engine in and tried to start the car, it throw a TDC sensor code, which means something was wrong with the distributor. I felt that i could now take it to the mechanic to find out what exactly was wrong with my car since i was in way over my head and was let down and told that they could not do engine work this involved. I have been bumming rides off my sister and friends for the last 2 months and this car is taking a mental toll on me haha...could somebody please give me some suggestions on what to do?

why'd you stick with obd2, And isn't the TDC code the same as the crank angle position sensor?

bc at the time i spent all of my money on the new engine and didnt have the money to buy the new ecu and adapter. And im not sure about the TDC being the same as the crank angle position sensor...would could be some possible problems causing the code?
