Default First Dyno - Baseline

Hey guys,

Finally had time to get a baseline for my motor.
I managed to get 189.4whp and approx. 136lbs of tq. Numbers seem a bit high?

Mods:
-'98 Spec JDM ITR (B18C)
-4.7FD LSD Tranny
-Toda 8lbs flywheel
-RPS Sport clutch
-Generic SRI with S&B Cone
-Spoon 4-2-1 header with 2.5" collecto
-Apex'i Worldsport 1 (straigh pipe)
-Toda cam gears left at 0
-94 Octane Chevron Supreme
-Volk TE37 15"
-chipped P28 ECU ('Mugen' Program)

Anyways, it was run at a local shop called Kinetic Motorsports on a 'Dyno Dynamics' dynamometer. Temp was +1 degrees when i got there and +5 degrees on the last run.

All 4 runs were done in 4th gear. I'll try to get pics up soon. How much discrepancy is there in dyno's?

Any feed back would be great.

Pics are up:

to me the numbers do seem a bit high..
are you on stock R cams?
stock TB and IM?

any other motors to compare with that have been dynoed at the same facility?

thats what i was thinking especially since dyno dynamic dynos tend to put out a little bit lower #'s around here.

Yup, stock ITR cams/TB/IM.

sorry, i didn't ask the guy to see other dyno charts for reference.

seems kinda high though after searching through HT...

from the three runs shown on the chart...no changes or tuning was done at all?
almost a 10whp difference

no changes at all. i don't have any tuning devices yet (not even a vafc) either cuz that'll come after the cam buildup. it was cold in there though, didn't even turn on the fan.

first run was to calibrate the dyno according to the guy who set it up and strapped my car down. other than that, it's apparently SAE corrected.

well...seems to me like there arent really many explanations to justify your numbers...
or...
u just have a very healthy freak motor...
big ups to you man
get it tuned

lol, that's what i was thinking too cuz my numbers seem to be higher than some guys running stage 2 cams on their B18C's.

tuning will come next year when i decide on a computer (Hondata or standalone) and a cam build up (Toda B or C....) hoping to get over 200whp then!

could there actually be more power to the JDM motors compared to the USDM versions?

nah, based from what I've seen cars run at the local tracks and with the hp output shown on the dyno charts, i'll tell u i guarantee u it reads high hehe.. sorry yo...

You looking at bout 175-180 realistically on any other dyno.

Ie. 210whp dyno chart 150 torque showing traps speeds of 100mph don't add up if yah know wut i mean...

But hey, for 175 not bad still

Dyno Dynamics seem to typically read low, but remember that operator input could make that motor put down 250whp if they wanted to.

Edit: 1320th post!!!!!!! just happend to notice

Being that Ive never had my car dyno'ed, this may seem like a NOOB question...

Doesn't the operator input your gear ratios before running the car? If so, is it possible that they were entered incorrectly ( or just off by a few tenths)?

Such a small change could theoretically result in a higher-than-average dyno reading. It's still a very strong run, nonetheless.

Happy tuning.

Depending on what software they are using (diff for earch dyno) the operator has the ability to adjust different input parameters. Ramp time.. etc.

power output is different between jdm and usdm models, compression is higher on jdm, but......im not sure about b18c5, but like b16a and b18c there is a power difference in jdm or usdm

yes a jdm R motor has a more compression but not much. its like .2 more then a usdm R motor. but your car with the mods you have should make about 175-180whp. i would look into getting some toda spec A's

jdm "r" is 11.0:1...usdm "r" is 10.6:1.
