Default anyone ever have coolant and vacuum leak from the TB?

my idle is a lil rough when fully warmed up, and its burning coolant when at idle....check my vacuum lines like a hundred times...the only thing i can think of is its my TB and gasket...i changed the gasket like three times now...everytime i change it, it drives well for awhile and then goes bad again, with bad idle...the TB looks perfectly normal though when i change it...is it possible that the surfaces arent mating well?...using a skunk manifold...thanks

sounds unlikely- are u using an IACV and/or FITV? what engine?

yeah it goes on the back of your manifold, it has 2 coolant lines going to it and is black and kinda cylindrical.

Check the vac lines while the car is on. Spray the length of the line with carb cleaner and listen for the idle to go up. If you spray a part and the idle increases u found a leak.

Leaks can be as small as a pinhole and do not only occur where the lines connect, sometimes they can happen anywhere along the line.....

ONLY coolant runs through the IACV coolant and vacuum run through the FITV, and the FITV is located on the throttle body AND controls vacuum as well. FITV's are alos notorious for failing since they rely on a crazy wax diaphram system....

yup its under the throttle.

it helps control your cold idle, and then keeps you normal once its warmed up. If its broken it can cause vacuum leak type symptoms, and they are notorious for breaking.

FITV = Fast Idle Thermo Valve

You can check if its broken by pulling it off and pulling off the flat plate side (2 screws). If the diaphram falls out- its dead.

Use a ceral box to block both opening to the intake manifold, then screw the diaphram alll the way in til you cant anymore. Close the assembly up and tighten it to the intake manifold (with cereal box blockoff gasket). Attach all hoses as before.

There ya go- you have now bypassed the FITV and cured any problems it was giving you.

mine is bypassed 2

if any of these two goes bad would it cause my car to smoke?...i just started burning coolant like couple days and its been giving me bad idle too....when the car is fully warmed up the idle kinda jumps around(800rpm to 1200rpm)....when im driving it and have it in neutral while the car is moving it idles hella high, then slowly goes down when the car is fully stopped...thanks for looking out mann...i was totally stuck and confused...now i have another shot

FITV will cause a wandering idle as you describe.

As for the smoking, where is it smoking from.. the exhaust? Im assuming its white smoke since u say its coolant, where do you live? Is it really cold? Does it smoke when cold and when warmed up? How much smoke in either state (cold/warm).

*edit*: aslo how high does it idle in neutral? are you tuned? on what ems?

Sorry for so many Q's jus trying to help ya out...

yea just smoking from the tailpipe....and its not condensation too...its starts to smoke alot when the bad idle comes in, when the car is fully warmed up...im in norcal and its cold out, but u can tell its coolant smoke(white smoke)...and u can smell it...the tailpipe also gets all misty and wet when it starts to smoke...im running crome and street tuned by my buddy...we just retuned it recently too...was running perfect for about a week then this came up

what HG? how many miles on it? Sounds like coolant maybe getting in the cyl. chambers.

Condensation is normal at cold to warming up temps. After its fully warm the heat of the exhaust should be hot enough to eliminate most if not all condensation. But condensation is a natural byprod. of combustion

well thats another thing too...oem HG...completely stock motor in the original chassis never taken apart b4...yea i know condensation is normal, and i can tell when all the condensation has been eliminated...the car is definitly smoking white smoke...it was smoking b4 once and i thought it was the HG...came to be that the TB gasket was not good....i took off my manifold and there was coolent residue in all runners...i fixed that problem and now its doing it again...looked inside the manifold today and it seems pretty dry...i changed out the TB gasket anyways...seems like the bad idle and smoke are connected though...seems to smoke alot when the idle is jumping...the plugs have black ash on them from coolant burning(im thinking)...the coolant resevior also went down a little bit...compression still holds 210 across though
