Need help with '93 Civic motor problems
This is my first posting and I would really like to tap your brains for a minute please.
This is my wifes '93 Civic VX that has run perfectly for 145,000 miles, then it starts last week to lose power on acceleration only once it gets warmed up.
I replaced distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs and plug wires. Still have the problem, so I take it to my mechanic. He takes two days to diagnose and then tells me it is my EGR. Says that cylinders # 2, 3,and 4 are "plugged up," so the EGR dumps all the return emissions into cylinder #1 only, causing the failure of #1 and loss in power.
Does this sound for real to you guys? He wants $550 to fix it. Says he has to pull the intake manifold and manually clean the EGR passages. Three hours labor and a gasket, no other parts.
I guess I am not very trusting of mechanics in the area of California where I live and would like to know if others have had this same problem?
Any and all input is welcome.
Thanks for your time and input!

oh yeah dont tell me ur going to the one on monterey road? that little plaza near monterey and tully.. like less than a than a mile from it? haha.. they tried to jip me once. i had a short somewhere and he said he was going to charge 400 bucks and it was going to take him 2 hours.. in the end, it took like less than 30 mins and i got it for like a little over a 100.. labor shouldn't cost that much. in san jose, u can find labor that goes for like 50 bucks an hour. mine was electrical so they charged me like 100 bucks an hour.. anyways, which place did u go to? go get a quote from another place. if not, just go to capitol honda.. my point is, they're going to try and overcharge u for things.. and also, make sure they tell u exactly what they're all doing and compare it to another mechanics shop..
