I am having a probem with my Civic. It has 180,00 miles on it and I bought it new. There are no aftermarket parts on it. I do all the maintenance on it my self. I am having a problem when I go accelerate in first and second gear it sputters. It does not happen all the time. It does not happen in the high gears. I would appreciate it if someone could give me a few suggestions. thanks.

maybe time for a tune up. When was the last time you changed fuel filter, rotor cap, wires, plugs, etc. Maybe even try running fuel injector cleaning fluid too

maybe test that clutch. Could be its slipping in all gears, but the lower gears would be more apparent.

Thanks for the reply. I have done all that recently except for new plug wires. would that be worth trying?

yeah it would, what spark plugs are you running?

definately try the plug wires....it's cheap and it probably needs done anyways....I had my brothers 90 Accord for awhile and it started doin' the exact same thing...car had 280,xxxmiles and I replaced everything before I found out a plug wire had just gone bad......

Definitely get the spark plugs. OEM NGKs are good. Gap them correctly and off you go. Maybe 1 or 2 have fouled up.

I do not remember what type I put in. I think Autolite or something. I replace them every year. Do you know the gap size for the plugs? I have a 1.5 size motor.

I tried the plug wires and got new the factory NGK plugs. I drove it around a couple of times and noticed a difference. It did not sputter so I'll see as I drive it more. thanks for your suggestons.

Yes. AutoLites are for the domestics, don't use those. Use OEM plugs and wires always, unless highly modded (but most still use OEM). Gap them to 1.1mm (.39 inch).
