WTF is the "service engine" light about?
This light keeps coming on and off and I have no idea why. I had the codes checked thinking it was like a "check engine" light, but it came back clean. Any idea what could cause this?
Oh, and I have a 2000 Accord 2D /4C

Service engine light typically is something that is ran off mileage and it suggest service to your vehicle. I would refer to your manual on what to check and how to check that it isn't your check engine light (cel).
If you don't have a manual, you need to get one. first thing you can look up is, which light is check engine, and which is maintenance required light. The maintenance required light comes on every 7,000 miles or so to remind you to do the required maintenance on your car (little square light that turns yellow, then red). The check engine light means something is wrong somewhere, and needs to be checked out (larger light with outline of an engine in it). This light will store trouble codes to give you an idea what to look for. I hear that Autozone will pull the codes for you free of charge.
"Service Engine" = "Check Engine".
Honda utilizes a seperate Maintaince Reminder Flag.
The "Service Engine" Lamp is triggered by any deviation from established values of any of the components which make up the Engine Management System. It is NOT intended to indicate loss of oil pressure, or coolant temp (seperate idiot lights for those)
If the lamp comes on, it indicates something is/has happened and requires attention.
it can mean:
1) Light on/goes off. Temporary condition which corrected itself
2) Light on, set code. Component/system failure. Code will point the way
3) Light on, no code. Defective ECM, can't self-diagnose OR code retrival method in error

i always reset my light in my 6g, so i have only seen it go to yellow. curious to if it actually turns red now,

God knows I've been caught off base on occasion, but I believe he's refering to the "Service Engine" lamp as opposed to the colored (Green, Yellow, Red)square 'maintaince reminder' on the cluster's bottom.

I'm not at all sure about the 2000 model, but the 03 goes like this. Push and hold down the odometer button (inside the cluster) turn the key on to second position, while still holding down until light goes out.
