the y8 is from the 96 to 00 ex's, and if your boosting you want to lower your compression, so you kinda made your self look ignorant

 

He said he wanted to get some more power until he boosted, so raise CR until then. Higher CR makes the engine more efficient though.

on H22s the stock head gasket is 30 thousandths (.030) if you get a thinner one, say .015 your compression will bump about .5 points. (10:1 to 10.5:1).

and a bump in compression of this order will give you about a 4-6% increase in torque across the board.

You should see the same % numbers on the SOHC, just working with smaller numbers. I'd say go for it, you're probably only shaving .005 or so (5 thousandths) but if they cost the same who cares. Just remember for every .015 you remove between the cam gears and the crank you're retarding timing about half a degree (calculated with H22 cam gears which are about the same diameter as the D-series ones) so you might loose the power you gained unless you have an adjustable cam gear.

ohh my god, what ******* CIVIC has the thinner gasket that will work on my 1.5L SOHC NON VTEC? I rememebr someone saying Civic 96-00 But what modle EX or DX, someone said the EX is VTEC!!! I aM NON VTEC!

 

They are all the SAME, just y8 is thinner but not enough to notice much power on a D15 for the work.

aight, I just bough the D16Y8 head gasket, I hope its the SAME match as my D15b7 Cuz My d15b7 is NON VTEC and the D16y8 is Vtec .

hey fucktard, settle down. Vtec or not makes no difference with your gasket, so stop shitting yourself. The y8 gasket is thinner than the other oem ones and WILL raise your compression (despite what some other moron said). As for what is affected by raising your compression, refer to what h22mike said. You could have had the answer to all of your bitching and moaning alot sooner if you had actually read what the others had told you.

 

are you really going to replace you HG just for a few horsepower? a 4% increase on a 100 horse motor is barely anything to notice

 

ok, here is the freaking deal, I bent some valves on my priveious head, thankfully I have a BRAND new HEAD that I seriously polished the out side and ported & polished the ports, therefore I have to get a new head gasket, so why not get the Y8 gasket? since its off....

btw if you have a d15 a y8 head gasket wont work d15 with d15, d16 with d 16 its as simple as 1+1 plus

your compression will be close to stock compression if not the same, y8 headgasket, wrong one!, brand new valves and valves valve job?? whatever that is? cylinder honing, squat, brings your compression back to stock numbers across the boards no performance gain over stock, valves adjusted perfectly, they should be perfect anyway

 

WRONG! my D15B7 has and has had a D16Y8 head gasket for a week now no problems! Its thinner and metal!

get a timing light and adjust it correctly, and it depends how far off your timing is if you to break stuff

 

1 pretty sure 1 tooth, possibly 2, but im sure its 1, on the cam timing that it, crank timing is perfect!

 

did you check TDC

 

its scary that this guy is going to boost/swap his car...you arent going to attempt to install the turbo kit and swap the car are you? you definatly need to do some research before you ask stupid questions.
