Default B20vtec

I have a eg coupe, b20b w/ gsr tranny, and i was thinking about buying a gsr or b16 head. i've heard that b20vtec will hold up and that it will not. i was just wondering what everyones oppinion on it.

when i put a head on it i will have golden eagle kit, arp head studs, and all the nessecary stuff for the swap. but i am not planning on reving over 7500 rpms, i know it wont hold. also does anyone know the hp and torque of this?

I do believe the b20 block has like 120hp and a decent amount of torque, I think more torque than HP and normally with a vtec head, it adds a good 30hp, then with all the other essentials you'll be doin alright. Are you doing N/A or Boost? The walls on the b20 are a lot thinner than the ones found on the b16 and 18. I would recommend using a blockguard, they are fairly inexpensive and worth it! Also, if you use a b16 or b18 head you'll be able to go till 8,000 rpms with no problem if you're doing rods and pistons. I'd be worried more about the rods holding up due to the fact that a b20 isn't a hi revving motor- its a hauler, hence (CRV)-VTEC.It will be good for torque though. I've heard good things about that block, but again the walls are thin so be careful if you boost. Let me know how you make out. It doesn't really matter what head you plan on using. Compression wise, the b18 will lower your compression a little bit and the b16 will keep it higher. The b18 I think revs till 8200 and b16 till 8000. So really it's not a major difference, just whatever you plan on spending money on. Oh and I think the throttle body on the b18 is slightly larger. a MM or 2. hope I was of some help.

I have a b20z block matched with a jdm b16a head in my hatch and its been holding up...well its only been 2 weeks The block and head are all bone stock and as for converting it, I just did everthing myself because I didnt feel like spending the money on the golden eagle kit... the b20vtec is nice and I can take my friend with a jdm h22 in his hatch but its still not fast enough for me, so I am going to wait till this either cracks a sleeve or throws a rod and go back to Ls and turbo it

i have a jdm b20b with a gsr head and i rev mine to 8200 and its been holding up fine for a year now. i love the power i feel from the motor. as far as power and torque go. mine put down 173whp and 140 ftlbs of torque. so even tho the hp is taht great its the torque that shocks everyone when i tell them.

The verdict: NA B20Vs are fine. Boost is a different story.

The bottom end needs upgraded rod bolts to live and higher compression pistons to make good power. You can still rev it reasonably to a bit north of 8k.
