I've just purchased the 00' ITR cams for my B16 motor (00'si) for dirt cheap and have a couple of questions - The car has 90K miles on it, I'm looking to push my standard power upto 170whp (~200bhp), so i'm NOT looking for anything too aggressive. I've got the standard bolt-on ex/hd/cai setup. Daily driver so durability, low maintenance, and cost effective are what im going for as well.

1. Considering 90k miles on the motor, will upgrading the valvetrain be neccessary right now? Or can i get away with just fitting ITR valve springs and leaving the stock retainers?

2. Will an OEM Honda timing belt do for my application? (i'll be fitting some aftermarket adjaustable cam gears too).

3. Will an OEM Honda head gasket set do for my application?


Also, would it be wise for me to purchase cam gears for my CTR cam or can i adjust them using my stock B16a2 gears? I read that for mild cams, it may be pointless as you end up just moving the power band around.

Any suggestions you can add to help me out will be very nice. I have a 800 dollars budget on top of it all.

 

Just install them and have fun.

At 90k just make sure the timing belt etc.. is ok I dont htink you have to change that until 115k?..

if your going to install Type R valve springs that would help but it is not neccessary.

 

do the timing belt just to be safe.... its bette rto know its done then wonder if it will hold...while your doin that might as well do the water pump too...

 

perhaps you could use your money to purchase a Hondata or something and some dyno time to tune it.

Yes it should pass without any trouble. They are stock cams. and are not that much more aggressive then stock b16s

I heard if you run two exhaust cams you get +100whp after 11KRPM.

I understand i wont' pass without any troubles if just putting the cams in, what about if i decided to up the valvetrain later on and add CTR pistons as well with tuning. Will that effect smog or should I be OK. Thanks again.

Put your intake springs on the exhaust side and buy new type r intake springs.

Get some adjustable cam gears. Leave em at 0
