Default Regarding CV axle replacement ... Ordering Parts, need help

Hey Guys,

Well after my last track session, on the way home, my car shakes horribly on accelleration. It doesn't shake when cruising or when slowing down/stopping. My conclusion is that it is the CV Axle after reading many topics on here HT. I have a question, what are the best axles for the money and where can i get them online. Another thing, the CV joint comes on the actual axle correct ???

Just trying to understand a little more. SOme people told me to replace the CV Joint but if my memory serves me right, that is on brand new CV axles correct ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys, hope to order parts today.

You could replace that CV joint only.. It's not the axle.

I would just get an axle from Napa or Advanced Auto. Right around 75 bucs after core return, and lifetime warrenty. That way when they break again you can just go get a new one.

if it was the axle though, wouldn't that stop that tire from moving ???? wouldn't the tire just drag ? i also don't hear any noises which is usual if a cv goes.

If the axle was messed up bad enough to stop the tire from rotating you would have worse problems to worry about than just the axle.

CV joints do tend to make a lot of noise when they go out. Believe me, I've gone through 5 axles in 4 years, I know.

There is also usually vibrating / knocking when the CV joint goes as well, and in my experience, this knocking was only noticable under acceleration (not slowing down or cruising) until the cv joint got REALLY bad.

One way to check and see if your CV joint is out is to see if it is slinging grease everywhere. This is not a SURE way to tell, but often times if the CV joint gets messed up it will tear a small hole in the boot and cause the grease to sling everywhere.

Most likely you should just replace the whole axle just to be safe! At least that's what I would do / have done.
