89 si cranks but wont start. Died while driving out of nowhere. Here is the info...

No power to fuel pump or ECU when key is turned on
CEL comes on when key is turned on but doesnt go back off, no click sound

What was checked:
Main relay - tried 2
ECU - tried 2
dizzy - swapped to different one
ALL fuses and relays - everything seems good and normal

It appears no voltage is getting to the main relay to let it give power to everything else. I was REALLY hoping it was the main relay, but it is NOT.

 

check ground to the T-stat housing.

sounds like the tstat housing ground same thing happened to me

 

what really gets me is how the CEL doesnt turn back off. With these symptoms, usually the CEL will come on and blink off like it should, but it wont click.

If that ground isn't hooked up too the thermostat you will get a solid cel like you have. thats a major ground for all your sensors. just double check that its only a 10mm and it takes 10 seconds to do. Hope its something simple for you I hate dumb probs

 

yeah man.... i HATE these dumb problems. i feel bad for some technicians that have to diagnose problems like this...... sometimes it takes me days to figure out small - easy fix problems like this.

 

cleaned the Tstat ground, resoldered the main relay, and changed fuse 14. runs like a champ!

 

Fuse #14 labeled alternator/solenoid valve..
I pushed my car about a mile because of it...
