I highly suggenst you get a SOHC VTEC.
I got my SOHC VTEC ZC (d16z6 basically) and an Si tranny for $900 CAD... both with approx 60,000km from japan, I went right in and chose my motor and tranny from a large selection. For anyone around Vancouver I suggest hiting up JK Japanese Engines for your swap gear. I'm glad I did.

If it has to be D-series, then SOHC VTEC is definitely the way to go.

Any b series swap will probably cost over a grand. But his post makes it seem like he's only looking for an engine under 1000. It would probably be correct to assume that he's talking about a full swap though.

B20 hands down. If your just asking about the motor itself. The swap will cost another grand atleast. If you choose to upgrade more stuff of course it'll be a bit more... But why not upgrade the clutch ect when its already out of the engine...
