Default zc sohc vtec or d15b(jdm) sohc vtec

i was going to go with a b series swap because i love the sound of the vtec, but im now moving into my own place, so that is kinda of out of my league, so i couldnt decide either the zc sohc vtec or the jdm d15b sohc vtec. any opinions or .02 cents is welcome.

I was gonna go w/ d15b but they're so rare you can't do much w/ them, as far as internals for upgrading or fixing. So I'll be getting my zc vtec later this week w/ bigger displacement, more torque down low, and better for boost, which is my goal. Same as z6.

These motors make the same out put. 130 PS.

But there are pro/cons to either.

ZC...same engine as D16Z6. More TQ than D15B.

D15B. Has a VX like block, which has a different R/S than other D15B's. The rod ratio is equivalent to the B17A, which is better for high RPM longevity.

Only reason I'd get eithet of these over a Z6, is mileage, other wise:

130 PS = 128 HP, D16Z6 = 125 HP. They are the same motor. All 3 motors, SOHC ZC VTEC, D16Z6, and D15B share the SAME P08 head. That the main thing. There are compression ratios, rod ratios, cam profiles, and engine block stamps that are the difference.

There is one more motor, the SOHC VTEC D16A...from 92-95 Domani, and 93-95 JDM Coupe EJ1. also 130 PS.

I was going through the same thing about two weeks ago, I wasnt sure whether to go with the D15b or a JDM ZC Vtec. I just went for the 1.6 instead of the 1.5 because of the displacement (which isnt much but its a little bit more) and also because its equivalent to the Z6 so there is great aftermarket to build your bottom end unlike the D15b. Good Luck

I'd say 1.5 if your car isn't a PORKER

PORKER = 1.6L

there is a OBD1 sohc vtec ZC which is very similar to the D16z6 off 92-95 Civic EX/Si. I believe the OBD1 sohc vtec ZCs come from a Domani, not sure.

the obd1 sohc jdm vtec is the d16a, i have never seen one , like they said comes from the domani, it was the EJ1 jdm version i believe. but yeah they are all basically the same, and i thought you can build a d15b as easy as the rest.

I think the SOHC vtec zc is a very rare motor if i am not mistaken. The sohc zc is a cool motor because most people dont realize that it has 120hp. the d15 is cool but the parts can be hard to come by. I like the motor though. If you really want to save money you can find a good z6 prob the cheepest of the three. mine has 148K on it and it is the strongest honda motor i've ever owned. just my .02

sohc zc vtec doesn't have 120hp. It has the same as the z6. Same engine, some say more aggressive cam.
