ZC is a Japan only engine that came in both SOHC and DOHC. None had VTEC, which renders it useless.

Umm...I"m 99.9999% sure there's a SOHC VTEC and SOHC Non-VTEC as well as a DOHC VTEC and a DOHC Non-VTEC.

I'm not positive, but I know at least one of them (DOHC or SOHC) comes with or without VTEC.

Never-the-less, the engine's useless in my opinion.

The DOHC D16ZC puts out about as much as the D16Z6. They're **** motors, that's why they're vary rarely used and no-longer produced.

Get a JDM D15b, good motor for a daily driver. That, a D16Z6, 1.5 bored to a 1.6, or a D15b USDM with a mini-me. They have enough power and torque to be nice daily drivers as well as gas mileage to boot.

ok look, the Zc was not just only available in japan. the 1st gen integras came with the ZC motor. it is a 1.6L DOHC non-Vtec motor. they only make, i believe, was 130 hp. not bad for a daily driver but dont expect to be able to push the car in the 13's. the only ZC that i know of that had aftermarket internals was only ablee pull off 14 something. on of my staff sargeants has a 1st gen CRX that he swaped in a zc with aftermarket internals and turboed it at 14psi and was only able to put down 220hp at the wheels. to make this some what short, the zc motor is junk. THEY ARE WELL KNOW TO BLOW UP. they're **** motors. go with a d-series single cam v-tec motor and call it a day. they are great daily driving motors which you can get pretty good hp#'s on. they go from any where between $200-$600 buck for a full swap

there is soo much information beeing tossed around on the "ZC" motors..

ok first of all theres the sohc non vtec zc... wich goes into the 88-91.. they are to replace the d16a6's.. these are smog legal

then theres the zc vtec's for the 92-95 cars also smog legal..

then the dohc zc 88-93.. these are all non vtec and they can only be transplanted into the 86-89 integra and still be smog legal.. in anything else it will never pass bar

the d15b is not bored to a 1.6... hence the engine code d15... 15=1.5...

i would never swap out a 1.5 for a 1.6 tq ownz

and there is no d15b usdm ... its all d15b7-b8

I Own a SOHC VTEC ZC and it is basically a copy of the D16z6 with a more aggressive cam.

no such thing as ZC vtec single or dual cam.

BUT...You can put a single cam vtec head on a ZC block. I had that setup on my old ef. Even the grey plug ZC's that came on the 20th anniversary EG5 wasnt a vtec motor.

this dude from here is making like 240 hp on it.

info take n from houston-imports.com
"They dont make aftermarket cams for the zc. Only place that will make you cams is jgenginedynamics.com and you have to send them your stock ones for exchange of regrinds. The rule of thumb with the zc is that everything on the head is going to be off a 1st gen 86-89 integra expect the cam gears and timing belt those will be off a 88 prelude si. Everything on the block itself as in water pump, oil pump, etc is off a crx si 88-91. If you need to replace the pistons for any reason that will be off the 88-89 integra. Check out http://www.thezcr.com they have everything you need to know about the weird *** ZC motor." LURKER (coolguy)

http://www.thezcr.com try this website its got all kind of info on it

Bullshit. Do your research, before you some of you people hand out bad information. There are three ZC motors.

the SOHC non-VTEC rated at 120ish hp
the SOHC VTEC rated at 130hp
and the DOHC non-VTEC rated at 137hp

siregcivic had it right the first time.

so what car & market did the sohc vtec zc come in? Its basically d15b with a zc stamp BUT 1.6L? I cant imaging honda making a 1.5L vtec motor that makes 130hp AND a 1.6L ZC that makes the same, but has a "more aggresive cam"??? Doesnt make sense. Or are you saying its a z6 with a ZC stamp with a more aggresive cam that 5 more hp?

Ive searched the ZC source website (since my intial post in this thread) & havent come up with any more info than there was one produced.

If there really was one, I stand corrected. But post up a little more specific info.

in japan, I believe that anything with more than 1550cc is considered a "larger" vehicle and is taxed more.

Which is why they have the d15b and the zc vtec.

zc vtec = d16z6

so again.. school me now. They had a single cam ZC vtec (z6) AND the twin cam non vtec ZC? And both were grey plug - obd1?

Still doesnt make sense they would have both, with the same stamp.

Yes the cam grind is supposedly a little more aggressive in the zc than the z6. I don't know why. There is a difference between the two. My block is stamped ZC and has the d16z6 head(same stamp) but, it came this way when I ordered it from the importer.

It has Japanese writing on the timing belt cover so it looked right to me. I haven't pulled it apart to check the specs on the bore/stroke/cam but when i was doing my research basically the motor cam in obd-1 only.

zc engines arnt junk,
you can easily make a zc push out 200 hp way chaper than you can make a b16 push out 200hp,
turbo ing a dohc zc is a lot easier than any bsieries motor,

I had a ZC SOHC VTEC in my civic hatch once. From what I know it's the exact same thing as a d16z6. Block stamped p28, head is stamped p08, and pistons are stamped p28. Block said ZC, valve cover said VTEC HONDA, and vtec solinoid sitting in front of your face. So that equals ZC VTEC SOHC

Not sure what you mean by that, but when I recieved my ZC SOHC VTEC it was obd1 and I'm sure they used it with obd2 cars as well, but not sure about that.
