Brake Conversion Proportioning valves????
I have a 92 EG6 DX that I am converting to disc brakes. The control arms / calipers, spindles are all from a 96-97 GSR. The Master Cylinder and Booster are from an 96 RS... Now the problem - the first PP valve I received was for a GSR (with ABS). HAP in Rancho Cordova, Ca agreed to replace it with a PP valve from a 92 civic SI w Rear Disc AND w/o ABS. When I recieved the second PP valve it was marked 30/40, same as what is in my DX. When I called them they told me it was the right PP valve - I thought I needed the 40/40 PP valve??? Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

40/40
I did this conversion.
as is my understanding, the civic has smaller front calipers and therefore requires less brake fluid, which is the reason for the 3040 valve. If you are running integra brakes all the way around, I would run the 4040 valve as well. the combo works great in my cx hatch
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

7 years ago i swapped to 5 lug with nsx calipers on 94 si. at that same time, i removed the abs, and i swapped in a 3040 prop valve. i had NO problems with brake proportioning, whether it be on the street or on the track during hpde. this was with the stock 15/16 master too...
this past season, i removed the 5 lug in favor of the 00 civic 9.4 front and drum rears. again, no issues. so, my point is this, do not kill yourself over the "proper" prop valve. put the brakes in and try them out.

I agree. I ran my integra spec setup (including 1'' MC) with my stock DX prop valve for about 5months and it was fine. I upgraded to a 40/40 and I did notice better braking BUT it could have easily been from me bleeding my brakes better. I dunno.
BlueIntegraBoy - THANKS!!! That was the answer I was looking for....
Rodney / Litterbox - Good point, I will probably leave my DX PP valve in for now because I want to do the swap over the Thanksgiving weekend. Just didn't want to hassle with draining the brake fluid a second time to replace the PP valve....
Thanks,
Ken

I don't agree with that totally. I have a 30/40 PP from a 95 Si w/o abs The only car I know that has the 40/40 PP are the integras. I've looked through the Honda catalog on the 92-95 civic Si's pp, I've only seen it as 30/40 throughout the Si model years, all parts # are the same too.

Damn it!
I knew it sounded too easy... I checked Majestic Honda Online and it looks like all the Non-ABS 92-95 Civic Si have the same Part Number PP valve... I find it hard to believe Honda uses the same PN for different Ratios 30/40 vs. 40/40... Well I'm gonna install what I've got for now and see. The 40/40 PP valve is turning out to be a real bitch to locate...Any suggestions???
Thanks,
Ken

If you are running GS-R Front/Rear rotors, they're the same size as the 99-00 Civic SI rotors. If you go with the PV from the EM1, it'll properly match your rotor size...
The only catch is that I've read that non Type-R Integra calipers, while they have the same attachment points, have slightly larger caliper pistons. This might be a significant difference, or not. I am also unsure if any differences might be compensated for/worsened by using a GS-R BB and BMC. What I do know is that the EM1's Prop Valve is Honda/Acura PN 46210-S04-902!!
On a side note, many online sites show that 1994 was the only year to offer an ABS option for the USDM 92-95 SIs, along with the larger front rotor. Strangely enough, Brembo's OEM Rotor catalog shows this larger rotor (as well as ABS) as an option for 1995 SIs.
Lastly, I have the Prop Valve for the EM1. I still have its plastic bag, with a Genuine Honda Made in Japan sticker, showing PN 46210-S04-902. NO WHERE ON THIS PART did it show anything regarding any ratio. The only stampings on it are: "k4cE" (all caps, but the "E" is much bigger) near the bottom of the front; "5 F 1", each within a circle lined up horizontally below the rightmost outlet; and "05 (logo) (dot)" lined up vertically below the leftmost outlet. I don't know if it's 30/40, or 40/40, or 20/20. I don't give a ****. I only know it's the part I need...
Anyway, let us know how things go.. GL

THE CORRECT PROP VALVE FOR EG'S WITH THE FULL INTEGRA SPEC BRAKE UPGRADE IS THE 40/40 FROM A 1994-1995 INTEGRA RS NON-ABS.

Good to know.. Sorry, forgot to mention I have a 99 EX Coupe...
Thanks for the clear-up, litterbox! What differences account for this fitment problem? Do the lines connect in different places, so that the lines need to be re-laid? Or maybe the bolt holes don't line up, but the lines fit? Or maybe there's just no room to fit it? Are they still the same "ratio"? I don't have a EG, so I don't really have a point of reference.
Thanks for the info. It's a good thing to know...

Ok, here's the RS non abs 40/40 (This is on an EG)

Ok, here's the RS non abs 40/40 (This is on an EG)

OIC. Connection and Mounting points are both different. Are they both the same "ratio"? Meaning, would a PV from an EM1 "function properly" in an EG if the brake lines were rerouted and a suitable mounting point found/made? I notice 6 in/outlets, so maybe they function similarly, but are of different construction.
I know it's not a practical solution, just looking for "theoretical" confirmation on how these parts work. tryin to learn...
Thanks again, litterbox!

I believe thats becase all non-abs usdm eg were rear drum and therefore used a 30/40, only the the si cpe & hatch which were abs offered rear disc. So when searching online for non-abs parts you wouldn't find a 40/40 valve.
Also i was under the impression that a 40/40 off a integra DA will also work on an eg chassis. litterbox, posted saying that 94/95 dc rs non-abs is the correct valve, i fully agree, although i beleive that the other dc pp valves will work.
