high oil pressure
hooked up an oil pressure gauge today and i'm reading about 40psi at idle (800rpm and water at 180). it seems really high. from what ive read it should be around 20-25psi at idle. i just did an oil change with fresh mobil 1 and pure one oil filter but no change in pressure. any ideas why pressure is so high?
What does your oil pressure gauge read at 3K and 6K rpms? Could just be a cheap gauge reading inaccurately, or maybe your pcv system isn't functioning properly. Check with another gauge if possible and check the rattle on your pcv valve. I guess the real worry is too low of an oil pressure reading.
My readings with my cheap oil pressure gauge I installed:
16 psi @ idle (750rpms) with engine at operating temp
70 psi @ 3K rpms
75 psi @ 6K rpms
running on 10/40 wt Castrol GTX -- my readings were alittle lower on 10/30 wt

alright just replaced the pcv valve today. was a pain in the *** to remove but i got it. now at about 800rpm, operating temp, oil psi is about 30. still seems high. it used to be around 24psi, then i let the car sit for about 3 months.
