Okay what is involved and how much should it cost? I have a B18B1 out of a 95 integra, fully disassembled. I want to put in forged rods and pistons. So if I bring all the parts to someone minus-the pistons, rods, & rings....what do you think it would cost to have them blueprint/balance the engine? I don't want to buy rods and pistons and then find out I need the next size up, I'll let them measure to ensureI get the right parts.

I would need the block re-honed, and probably have them assemble the shortblock. THNX L8R

Just kidding, if you aren't modifing the crank or anything and using all uniform pistons and rods, you should be straight on the balance side. Honing the block is definetly a good idea, i assume that your cross-hatch is f-ed up. (for example my engine had 150k on it and i broke it down to replace some valves and then realized i had the most perfect cross hatch ever!, even after tons of NOS) So check that, if it's straight, just take it to a machine shop to have your pistons and rods assembled ~$20.00. Then put it back together your self. Otherwise, assembling the whole engine shouldn't be but like $2-300.00. So check around go talk to some machine shops.

 

I have a haynes manual, but it's total crap gotta get a Helms. I can actually still see some of the stock cross-hatch But I'd rather be on the safe side and have it re-honed. I just got done dissasembling everything, onlything's left on the block are this black rectangular box(catch-can??) and the water pump. I just wanted to pull the crank and pistons out and really see what condition the cylinder walls were in

Now it's just a matter of ordering the right parts, measuring for the correct bearings and putting it together How much do bearings cost on average? Anyone know?

Not sure yet, but I might use the guy my bodyshop uses. He's been building engine's for about 20yrs. And has a flow bench etc. We'll see though.

 

He will need your assembled rods and pistons along with the crank to do the balancing. heavier or lighter Rod/piston assy requires adding/removing weights on the crank.
