Default clock died when i installed a radio

In my 1996 accord my clock is completely dead. As soon as i installed the radio the clock died. I used a plug and play wiring harness so i didn't splice any of the wires, and i didn't unplug it but i made sure it was still plugged in, which it is. So i don't know?

Did you check the 7.5A back up power fuse in the under hood fuse box?

nah, don't have to. the cig lighter works. I think somehow the radio and clock are connected by the constant power. I looked closer and thought about it and it makes sense. The clock only works when pushing down the button ( 5th gen) like you would if the car was off. And it only works when the car is on. When i push the button with the car off nothing happens, so im thinking that when the car is on its getting the acessory power and its not enough to power it or something. But im pretty sure its lacking constant power so im going to run a straight wire to the battery and connect it to the clock and see if anything changes.

fcm is right. I had the same thing happen to me when I bought my 2nd Civic couple of months ago. I checked the fuses under the dash and everything was fine so my assumptions were the same as yours. I did a search here on HT for 'constant wire' and found a post by fcm. I checked the back-up fuse under the hood, and the 7.5a fuse was indeed blown. Replaced it and taadow...clock and radio work.

Do check that fuse under the hood. Post back and let us know what happened.

cmon man you cant take 5 seconds and check your fuse, but you wanna spend more thinking up some crazy idea about constant power this and that. just check the fuse first lol

i fixed it. I dunno why my constant power isn't working from the headunit, because all the fuses are ok. So i just made a new constant power wire and it works fine.

Which fuses did you check that are ok? The ones under the dash? What I wanna know is if you checked that 7.5a backup fuse under the hood or not.

At least you got your stuff to work. Does your clock work too?

Yeah everything works like it should have. Yeah i checked the fuses. I dunno whats wrong with it, because the accessory power wire still works.. so i must have pulled the other wire out of a socket or something somewhere. I dunno.. but i got everything working the way it used to and my headunit and everything, so lifes good.
