ok well first off the tranny has been fine for the longest time.. i was at work all day today and when I started driving home I noticed that when the car is at a stop ... and in Neutral .. when I go to put it in First gear it seems there is some sort of hesitation that makes me have to push harder than normal to get it in.
This happens everytime I try.. now I dont have to push extremely hard however I have to push more than I usually do which is enough to make me notice.
when I select any other gear it goes in normal and like usual. but first at a dead stop is starting to act up.
any suggestions?
thanks if advance

Throw out bearing???
Mine was destroyed a while back but it never caused any difficulty getting into gear.
pressure plate would be my guess.
Mike, do the simple stuff first.
Bleed clutch fluid and check lines and around unit for leaks.
Have you noticed any difference in the pedal while driving?

not really the pedal feeling seems to be the same...
The only thing I have done different with the car the last few days was that I have been driving it really really easy and slow.... so who knows.. I will try to trouble shoot tommorow..
however if it was the pressure plate wouldnt the problem happen with all gears?

Start furthest from the tranny and work closer.
Check clutch fluid...is it low/dirty, etc, could be a sign of a leaky master/slave cylinder.
How is clutch freeplay? Excessive, etc, maybe you're not getting full disengagement, which would make it easier to shift with the countershaft spinning, compared to standing still.
Could be a number of things though, but deffinately one of clutch disengagement

Just checked it... the problem does NOT happen when the car is OFF.

damn I thought I had problems with my R but damn you ALWAYS have something wrong with any of the R's you've owned. Hope you get that fixed soon and it doesn't cause any real problems.
Sounds like a typical "problem" that has been reported here countless times. Have you tried putting it in second and then up to first? Diagnosing this could be more trouble than it's worth, I'd just live with it.

Yes i have tried that and it still persisted... funny thing is I get in my car today at 9am 11/14/05 a day after the problem started...
well sure enough it was still doing it agian. I was thinking to myself "the only thing I have done differently is not drive it hard.".. well after driving about 5 miles I decieded to pop some v-tec cause I havent in a few days.... everything was fine
Then I realize that every light I was at a stop at.... the problem totally disapeared.?!@#$#%#%
This car must have a temper or something... lol.. who knows.. maybe air in the clutch line? is that possible? dirty clutch fluid maybe that worked it self out?
Ill keep you posted on what happens next.

First the clutch fluid is a sealed unit, can't work itself out...
If you want I'll be in Orlando Wed afternoon, I could take a look at it.
PM me.

I had the same problem a while back and it was a broken spring on the clutch. Although mine got worse and worse, never got better..but it was the same simptom of having to almost forse it into first gear.

Have you tried starting in second to see if the problem is the same. Often one of the springs on the clutch disk will fail in our cars. It's a fairly common problem, I had it happen on two of my R's and I don't drive that hard, really.
stock clutch? how old?
I have seen this many times (from your symptom description) and it was broken spring tang on the clutch disc. Sometimes goes away sometimes you can't eve shift, it just depends where this thing land inside the housing as the clutch assembly is spinning...
I always use act street clutch disks (no spring tangs on those)...

Did you ever figure this one out because I have the same problem.
I got my comptech lightweight flywheel re-installed in June and at the time, changed from Honda MTF to Redline MTF. Five months later, I noticed that if I shifted quickly into 1st, it would grind. If I slowed the shift down a bit, it went in with slight hesitation but no grind.
I changed back to Honda MTF about a month ago and the grinding is gone when shifting quickly but the hesitation is still sometimes there. When I had my comptech FW installed, the clutch looked brand new so I doubt I was able to break a spring in such a short time especially since I have been gentle with the tranny.
