My friend has an EK9 and is experiencing some overheating problems occassionally. If he runs the car hard, redlineing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and then turns on the ac after the temperature guage would rise to three quarter and then he would shut off the vehicle. He changed the stock radiator to an aluminium double core, removed the thermostat, and changed the coolant. The temperature would also run high with the ac on for a while. Both fans were checked and it was good, the second one coming on when it should. There is no mixture of oil and water to suggest a faulty head gasket. Could someone provide some solution. Thanks in advance.

 

i'd check to see if theres air inside the coolant system. maybe have the radiator flushed. i once poured fix-a-leak into it and yeah that caused over heating problems. also, a faulty coolant temp gauage could also be the problem.

make sure you turn your heater on all the way when you bleed system. It takes like 20 minutes, half hour to do correctly.

 

When the thermostat was changed, was a the correct (temperature) one installed?

Looks to me like he completely removed, he didn't state changed.

Is the car losing any fluid or is it staying full but just hot?

 

sup dor. man, ur new motor is killing u already? i thought thay Ohs motor was good? well waterpump's kind of old so u might want to change that. oh yeah, like some of the other guys said, flush our ur radiator..

 

I would have him try bleeding the system again. The thermostat was never replaced. It is not loosing any fluid at all. It has be baffled.

 

is your water pump still working? Do you have a blockage somewhere in your system? Like when you swap all that stuff could something have fallen in? Maybe the new rad is faulty (came with an internal blockage) or it's undersized (not likely)

 

If he removed the thermostat, there is a reason why the coolant is not moving. When was the water pump replaced?

 

The problem existed with the previous oem radiator. The new radiator is definitely not undersized. I would have him check the water pump but I do not think it is faulty because it only overheats when the ac is on in traffic or the engine is run hard and he puts on the ac.

 

yeah so it cld still be the water pump. did u check ur ac relays and fan to see if they're working properly?
