need help asap (emissions trouble) pleaseeee
hey i just purchase a 98 civic hatch with a stock motor with about 100,000 miles. they car was bought from a random person and when i bought it he said he changed the battery and it reseted everything. so when i bring the car to emissions they say ''someone reseted the computers and we cant even test the car at all'' they told me to bring it to the dealership cause theyre the only ones that knows how to work with computers but they said it'll cost around 500 bucks. please tell me theres another way. anyone ever had this problem or anything like it? any suggestions. thanks for reading !!!
That doesn't make any sense. They're bullshitting you. The dealership quoted you $500 for what? I don't think they understood you. Take it to a better smog shop.
ECUs are reset all the time. It's a common procedure after certain types of maintenance. It doesn't hurt anything.

bump still need some help. i actually took it to this guy that tests your car before you do the actual emissions and he said he cant fix it cause it has to do with the computer. he said id have to take it to the dealer and it'll cost 500 bucks. the thought of the dealer just makes me sick and i know theres a easier way. maybe a stock ecu. i bought the car like this so have no idea what kinda ecu it is.
