D4 Light Flashes
Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, and was told you guys are the best! Im having a problem with my 98 Integra RS. My check engine light came on about 2 years and my D4 light flashes. When this first happened, I took it to a mechanic who told me it was my vehicle speed sensor, and that there wasn't a rush to get this fixed. My car does not really drive any different then normal, the only thing is I get bad gas mileage which the mechanic said was due to my speed sensor being faulty. Anyhow, I finally took it to Acura to get this sensor fixed and they told me I need a whole new transmission. The codes that they got from my car were..
P0700 - Automatic transmission control
P0715 - Problem in mainshaft speed sensor circuit
P0730 - Problem in shift control system
Now, I understand that those are all tranny problems, but do I really need a whole new transmission? My car just hit 100,000k's, I don't drive it hard, and it doesn't drive any differently. The guy at Acura thought this light just came on, and told me that this was just the beginning of my problems, and said it would only get worse from here, then I told him this light has been on for 2 years and I have not had any problems, and he looked quite surprised. Does this sound normal for a car like mine? Has anyone had this happen to them? I am jsut not sure what to do. I don't really want to spend 3 grand and a new tranny if I don't have to. Please help!

I would never pay 3 grand oro a tranny, ill drive my car till it dies, then do a 5 speed tranny in it! I still dont think its my tranny anyways, theres nothing noticable wrong with it.
All the codes that you are reciveing, are directly related to your speed sensor.
Lets break this down easily here:
P0700 - Automatic transmission control
P0715 - Problem in mainshaft speed sensor circuit
P0730 - Problem in shift control system
OK- So your speed sensor is shot as you say- this sensor relays voltage to the automatic transmission control unit, the automatic control unit then controls your shift control system to shift the gears at the proper speed smoothly.
You see how One device, can directly reflect two other componets?
You need to just replace the speed sensor. Pick up a good one from a junkyard for chep, and install it. If you were close by id do it for free.
I bet if you repair the speed sensor your other two codes will go away, assuming the hunch i have they are directly related.

That was very helpful, thank you. I will look into finding a speed sensor. Are they hard to put it in? Do I have to take it to a mechanic or is it easy enough for a friend to do?
