Default engine degreaser

i was in wal-mart a while back and came across a engine degreaser. its supposed to get oil and grime off the engine. my engine is pretty gunked up and when i turn on the heat you can kinda smell burnt oil and and stuff come through the vents a lil. i guess you just spray it on let it sit and than lightly risnse it off, but im wondering if it would mess up the wires or something. has anyone ever used this before?

I've used that stuff, or also just use SimpleGreen. A brush helps to get crud off, too. Just use common sense when you spray water to rinse it off. Battery, brake fluid, clutch fluid, & PS fluid all have small air vents, so don't get water in those. Most electrical connectors are ok for getting wet, just don't spray directly on them with lots of pressure.

wrap a piece of plastic over the distributor to keep water away form possibly going into the cap.. , other than that ,, wash away,,

I just used the Gunk engine degreaser today and sprayed mostly around my valve cover because it is leaking and must be replaced and also near the transmission from some weird build up. After I let it soak in for like 5 minutes or so I just sprayed it down with an ordinary garden hose. Worked great in some spots. I freaked out when I warmed up the car beacuse I didn't let the water dry off completely and saw the steam come out of my head shield from my header.
