Ultra Start Alarm help
I have an Ultra Start 4500m alarm/remote starter. I like the alarm and haven't had any real problems with it other then one annoyance. In order to activate the remote start function you have to leave the car running hit the brake twice, exit the car, do the hoke poke and once you turn yourself around, arm the alarm, then and only then will the remote start work. Maybe
My question is am I better off **** canning the unit and getting something else that's made for an auto so I don't have to go thro this **** or can I mod this so it will act like an auto and I don't have to go thro this ****?
I have a safety switch idea I can set up on the shifter so the car will only work in the neutral position so it wont be unsafe.

Im posting in both, just on the chance I might get a hit here, I figure theres some users like me who never look at those forums who might know the answer.
Morning Bump, I need to get this taken care of soon guys because winter is coming, I saw a no name brand one on ebay that will work pretty well too for 180. Im welcome to new sagestions for the alarm as well.
I installed a remote start on my Civic that was meant for an auto. It works great. Just use the ground while remote starting lead to bypass your clutch switch. If you want to make it safe from starting in gear then go to radio shack and get a magnetic reed switch. Make a bracket that holds the switch about a 1/4 inch from the bottom of your shifter balance weights. Then attach the magnet to the shifter weights. You will have to move the backet a few times to get it just right. With a little trial and error you should be able to make it so it wont start in gear. Just split off the hood pin wire, which is a ground. Run it to the switch and if its in gear it wont start because it thinks the hood is open.

Thats basicly what I was going to use, a mercury switch is what I remember calling them tho. You attach the starter wire after the relay tho its pretty simple, then no need to add anther wire that you dont need.
Come on guys, why is it no one ever responds to my posts?
Is it I'm asking to hard of questions all the time or do you people just not care

stick with anything from directed electronics, autopage stuff kinda sucks, works when it wants to, ive been installing for 6 years best like with dei, viper clifford etc etc.
Ok since no one seems to have the info I need, Im looking at new alarms. I found this one on ebay but I know its an off name brand, does anyone know of a name brand company that carries this one with the same features?
The features I want the most are the 2-way remote, and the owner reconition would be nice, the 1mile+ range is a must tho.

That wont tell me how to make it for an auto, the one I have is either made for an auto or an manual there isent a switch that Im aware of.
If you want range go with a CompuStar but the instructions kinda suck on installing them, I foud the all DEI products are good. Autopage is kinda like a german car, its fun for a week then it breaks. If you can get a Avan Gaurd 5, I know the spelled that wrong but whatever its a DEI product.
