Check my math/logic, please.
In both cases, the engines mentioned below would be torn down and rebuilt with aftermarket pistons and rods. The cost of doing this appears to be roughly the same for both engines, so it is not listed in the below chart.
In both cases, a custom turbo kit will be fitted to the engine.
My goal is to hit about 225-250whp and run mid-12's with the car. It is an 87 CRX Si.
A local wrecking yard has an 87 Integra with a D16A1 and has told me that I can basically come and take the entire drivetrain and anything attached to it for ~1000.00 USD. That price is open to negotiation.

Obviously, the B series engine is a superior setup, but it is twice as expensive to get started and it's illegal (a big concern for me).
What kind of power do you guys think I can realistically make on a built D16A1?
Thanks,
Sonny
PS-Much of this info was gleaned from 3rdgencivic.com and honda-perf.com. Thanks to the guys on those sites for supplying the info!

I would much rather get a smog legal USDM b16 than a fully built JDM b16 that I have to pull off every two years (or more often if a cop gives you a smog ref citation), especially since your goal is only 250whp or so.
ok, i wouldnt buy a wrecked integra for 1000...thats so dam high, you shouldnt spend more than 500 for an 87 integra...
i personally would go with the d16a over the b16a in a 1st gen, a lot easier swap...then just turbo it and have a decently fast car...

Your lists crack me up. 30 bucks for a timing belt.....Let me guess...saving money and not going OEM? Also, some of that stuff should come with the new motor...if not you can rob off of yours.
hehe, i used to do that a long time ago. Make a list and say ok were gona do this and stick to it. But the i realized nothing goeas according to plan! just start buying parts and pray. Dont cheap out on parts either, youll pay for it later.
Don't buy the teg engine for any $1000, I can get you a whole 89 car for $500. I would go with a ZC over that any day. Besides, you could get a B16 from a Delsol for less and not worry about emissions problems, IMO.
1000 bucks, junkyard teg! Damn acuras/hondas Do have good resale value! HAHA c'mon I spent 700 for my 90 crx running and driving, and I spent 300 on a 88 HB that ran like a top. I wouldn't mess with a motor that is 16 years old. Geez, have we forgotten about the WONDERFUL ZC? so cheap, so great.
You guys are overlooking a key point. I live in California
and want a legal setup. It's just not worth the hassle if I get pulled over and get sent to a smog ref. Plus, I have to smog the bitch every 2 years anyway.
This puts constraints on what I can do if I wanna do it legally and headache-free.
