Default 96 hatch Y7 to Y8 head...do i need the ECU to work proper?

i converted my Y7 into a Y8 using the cylinder head..i used the injectors that came with the 99 head..and was always getting rich codes..well i swapped back to the old dx injectors and that fixed that..i am also using a MSD switch at 4800 to engage vtec..the car is also turbocharged, i am wondering if i put a ex computer in it..wire up the oil pressure switch and Vtec solenoid..throw the ex injectors back .if it will run any better..does and ex have a better timing and fuel curve for vtec?..my car seems fast to me..but it also seems to have a feeling like something is holding it back??? thanks
