Will brake cleaner damage valve seals
I need to clean my b16 head and was just wondering if i just sprayed brake cleaner on it would it damage my valve seals? What about something like simple green and water? Would you guys recommend i completely dissassemble my head?
try something like seafoam or BG44K to clean caron deposits. You will need to let it sit, and probably put some elbow grease into getting it off.
Brake cleaner won't hurt the seals, but it won't do much other than remove the oil.The best way is to disassemble the head and have it cleaned.

Brake cleaner in and of itself shouldn't affect the seals. BUT, some brake cleaners form corrosive compounds when blended with oil. Also, stripping the oil from the valve stems could cause them to "grab" the seals and tear them.
If you have the head off I would go with NJIN's suggestion and disassemble it. It's no big deal really. If you don't have a valvespring compressor you can make one from a large C-clamp and a piece of tube.
