thats not your vtec engagement at 6k rpms. A stock Gs R vtec engages at 4400 rpms what your hearing is the IAB opening up at 5750 rpms (AKA secondaries) if your not hearing the secondaries the first thing you should do is check your OIL level if its too low then vtec won't engage. if its just your secondaries then check vacume lines..i had a leak on mine a while back and it wasnt opening either.

i have the same problem, i have a vtec controller and i set it @ 5000rpm i dont feel the hard pull from the vtec untill secondaries hit. i check the oil level its at the second hole on the dip stick and i dont see any leaks from any vacum lines. what should be the problem?

in a gsr you won't really feel vtec, secondaries is what pulls in a gsr

I thought vtec is not kick in until 4700-4800 RPM ?

I don't know what might be a problem, but you can check your vtec solenoid to see if it work. I would check the Oil level first lol. I'm sure this has been coverd many many times.

Anyways, here is how you do it.
Engine off, Disconnect the Vtec solenoid plug, find a wire and jump it to the POSITIVE TERMINAL lead of the battery. You should hear a sticking sound, if not your vtec solenoid is bad.
********Remember to reset the ecu or it'll throw a code************
