Default b18c1 vtec problem

when i hit vtec (~5800 rpm) the vtec will kick in, but then will cut in and out. i'm running stock motor with exception of CAI. i was told from a friend that the vtec solenoid has a filter which could get clogged. will this problem cause that? if so, how can i fix it? what else may cause this problem?

Your VTEC engages at 4400 RPM with a stock B18C1. The IAB (secondary betterflies in the intake manifold) engage at 5600 RPM. Your VTEC is most likely fine. Check the IAB. It is most likely a bad solenoid for the vacuum.
