if you drive over tall, dry grass you could possibly start a fire

Well, only if you really just park over it with your motor on for a while. I'm sure just driving over it won't do much. Hehe.

Some people take it off if it rattles. It's a known problem with Integras. I say if you're not having a problem, just leave it. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

if you take the heat shield off, you'll feel yoru shifter (if you have a 5speed) get warm, especially during the summer.

If I put my hand above the ebrake, I feel a slight bit of heat. Thats about it.

Its purpose is purely comfort-related.

so that's what that rattling noise is comming from.... Is there any way to stop the rattling without removing the cat? and if you take out the heatshield does the shifter get really hot? or just warm??

It keeps the cat hotter and reduce emission

You can go to home depot or lowes and use a metal band that ties around pipes for your cat. I used this to tie the heatshield down. no rattling or problems since.

Mine rattled alittle bit, so I took off the bottom half of the heat shield and left the top half on, that way you dont feel it inside the car, and after 6 months for me no rattling.

easy way to get rid of rattling heat shield and hot cat, and increase performance: take off the cat and remove the heat shield. take a piece of pipe and jam it into the cat (NOT THE SIDE!). get all that restrictive crap out of there and let you exhaust breath! dont forget to put the cat back on (duh). i live in ohio, so anyone here could care less if its smog legal or not
