Brass fitting steel oil pan??
I need to put my oil return fitting in my pan but the fitting is brass. How do I go about welding this thing on? Can I just use the same wire as I’m using for mild steel? Thanks for any input
Is your avatar under an MC-1C parachute? And if you are in Hawaii does that mean you are with Radio Recon? Just a guess here.
Anyway, I do not think brass can be welded to steel. You will probably have to braze it on. Don't worry, brazing is what holds the fins inside a torque converter to the steel housing, so it is plenty strong.

why not just weld in a 1/2 cast iron pipe? thats what i do.
brazing works fine to.
i would never JB weld a fitting to my oil pan, if that **** breaks off from vibrations u got serious problems.. cause u skimped on a 5$ piece.

yeah i'm gonna go check out home depot tomorrow and see what i can find. on a sad note i'm only able to use two things in the oil line kit that i got for $85 and they only cost about $6 next time i get the urge to buy a "kit" i'll just hit myself in the nutz with a ball peen hammer. diy, trust noone!
ok i found this thing, its made in china so it must be good! i was thinking cutting off the excess and angling it a bit and useing it like a bung. its plated with some crap but it passes the magnet test, ill just grind that **** off where i'm going to weld it at. yah, or nah?

the THREAD is 1/2" NPT.. you can get the barbed part in bigger sizes.. ^^
i just brazed the brass peice right to the oil pan - it has to be VERY clean or wont braze worth ****. if the brazing looks like **** you can always slap some jbweld on it to clean it up... i've seen people use strait jbweld but that seems wrong for such an important part of the turbo.
Actually you CAN weld brass to steel or cast iorn
It is called Silicon Bronze filler rod and is done under the TIG welding precess or under the Oxy-Acetylene process.
I do this quite often modifiying my uncle's race differentials. I have to weld a sleeve on the cast iorn portion of the diff and it works rather well. It is also a VERY process to learn becasue Silicon Bronze is a HUGE pain in the *** to weld. I have found that it is easier to weld Magnesium or Titanium than it is to weld this stuff.
