Tach question
Hey guys.. n00bie here but not to del Sols.. have a question...
I have a 93 del Sol Si (D16z6). Before I started my swap, the tachometer crapped out on me. The events leading up to this mysterious occurence?
-Changed plug wires and plugs, I think I got a wire crossed, fried distributor.
-Replaced distributor, everything was fine.
-About three days later, the tach crapped out. It would work sporatically... like, I'd be driving down the road, tach at 0, and all of a sudden it would jump to like 7400rpm (and the CEL would flicker if it got too high0, down to 3000, back up to like 6800, and then settle on a number around 3000-3500 that seemed to be where I was actually running at the time. It would be accurate for about 5 mins, then go nuts again, and finally settle back on 0. The engine's actual RPMs were consistent, so the engine wasn't revving in accordance to the tach's antics.
My question is this... I'm in the process of swapping this car and putting in a GSR motor. Do you guys think this is something I'm gonna have to deal with once the swap is done? Loose wire? Any ideas? I can give more info if needed, but I didn't really look into it too closely at the time because the car was getting swapped, but now that the swap is nearing completion, I'm curious. Thanks.

if you don't have a short in the wire, or a problem in the guage itself, yes.

no... connectors are clean. I was assuming it was something to do with the distributor, cause it started doing it right after the distributor got replaced (the old one was actually fried by the crossed wires).
i had a tach ****\blem once maybe it has to due to the fact that i change my rims from honda to nissan all the time but driving down the free way i would notice my tach will bounce and 1 time i saw a diference of half a grand in decrease on the tach?:
