I need to replace the tranny in my 94 civic lx d15b7 5 speed, Is there a certain tranny that will out perform the stock one, and will it bolt up with no mods.?

Well Im pretty sure ANY D series tranny will fit, but I hear the best one is from 96-00 EX, It would come off a D16Y8. Has the shortest gears, so faster acceleration.

 

96-00 EX is slightly shorter than 92-95 EX

 

Any ex/si tranny will outperform your stock one, but the 96-00ex is one of the best...

 

did u see a difference in gas mileage with the ex trans?

 

yes it will drop your gas milage , mine went from 40mpg to 32-35mpg but the shorter gears make a nice diff. , especially at higher rpms

 

would the decrease in gas mileage come from driving at a higher rpm? what about if you shifted at the same rpm as your dx trans, would the gas mileage still be the same? also, what would be the average difference in the 1/4 mile? like will it drop the time by 1/2 a second? sorry for all the questions haha

oh yea and to the original thread creator, 92-00 ex trans will bolt up just fine. i swapped my d15b7 trans for a 00 ex trans. i just never drove it yet since im still in the process of putting the whole car back together.

Damn thats alot, anyone else concur?

 

Ive granny driven mine w/ both tranny's and have seen a consistant 5-7mpg drop w/ the ex tranny, keep in mind the rpm that the motor is turning in 5th gear w/ the ex at 70 mph = 3000, w/ dx tranny 70 mph = 2500 . I think thats about right but its been a while since Ive had the dx in there so dont hold me to that rpm quote!

Well i dont know how much difference it makes on gas milage, but when i was rolling my d16 turbo with the ex tranny, i was getting about 400-425 miles per tank. But i was rolling with denso iridium plugs($14 a piece) and tsudo wires(@$90 a set) which helped a lot
