Default BLOWN PISTON RING I THINK. NEED HELP!!!! STUCK IN PHILLY!!!

Ok i bought this turbo civic with a b18c-1 engine in it. the guy said when i got it that one of the rings was blown.l Based simply on the fact that there is oil on the one spark plug. Based on this I ordered new rings and a friend was supposed to do the job. he took most of the enigine apart and now he is nowhere to be found. I have no clue what im doing. this is my first honda. I need to get this back together so i can get it back to LA where i live. Im in philly now. What I need is either someone in the area who knows how this who can do the job, or instructions on how to do it myself. To be honest im not 100% sure that the ring is bad. I was told that sometimes when you put synthetic oil in these cars it causes blowby. is there any truth in that? The former owner stated that it only started doing this after he put synthetic oil in. Can ANYONE help?

did you even check compression to see if it was the rings?

it would have sucked if it was just the valve cover gaskets

A compression tester can be found at your local automotive store for roughly $20-$30. They're fairly cheap. You might want to get one and check your compression. Then again, how far did your friend go in taking apart the motor?

dam dude that sucks. Is the guy on honda-tech?
I noticed I had more blow by when I used synthetic vs regular oil. Did you put new rings in or just put the motor back together?

Youre lucky you have a good shop in your backyard. Have the car towed to 1st State....its 25 minutes outside of Philly. If you need someone to put it back together they are dudes you can trust.

a little food for thought, if a ring is gone on a stock bottom honda, its usually ringland and your piston is fucked.
