pistons and sleeves are fine. any ideas of how this happened? does this kind of thing happen alot with blown headgaskets? looks like i'll have to slap on a spare stock head till i can get the money to fix this one..

You do realize that your intake valve is chipped to I hope?

The spark plug is messed up to...don't forget to change it to.

Good luck.

naw the intake valve isn't chipped, just a little wet. but i did realize that on my number 1 and 4 spark plugs the electrode was broken and those are the same cylinders that the gasket blew at. what would cause the spark plug to break like that?

you could have the melted piece welded up and then have the head milled but I wouldnt.. it sees alot of pressure there and may just crack again. i would use the head for parts and get another one

Wow! If you chamber and plugs were that bad, i'd hate to see your ring lands and cylinder sleeves.

After welding it I'd suggest changing out the valve seat for the valve closest to the crack.

Ditch the head. The combustion chamber got so hot that it actually plasma cut through the casting, probably started by a crack, which I imagine goes in further than the obvious damage. Imagine what that did to the rest of the casting. Also, the intake valve near the damage is pretty warped, and the melted electrode just proves what caused this was insanely high combustion temperatures.

i dont think it really cut through it but burned through it. that's where the head gasket blew so i'm guessing the hg blew and it was so hot it just burned through the head at that spot. but i'm gonna take the valve out and inspect it all.

i already have another head just dont have the money to get it machined like this one was.
