Steering rack...Damn Lock washer!!!...
How the hell do you get this thing off? I got the tabs bent back, but Now I'm not sure what to do to get it off. I've banged it a couple times with a hammer, and it hasn't budged.
Hrmm.
TIA,

haha, yeah I kinda figured that out...lol. I was looking at the thing like, how in the hell does this come off, and then I noticed that it looked like it screwed in.
Welp, rack end bushing is now replaced. Everyone was right, it is a PITA to take out and install. Now I just have to adjust the preload.

im contemplating if its almost simpler to just remove the whole rack first than trying to deal with unbending the lock washer and wrenching off the tie rod and removing and resinstalling the rack end bushing while still under the car.
the only extra effort would be popping the drive side tie rod out and removing the steering column bolt.
hmmm....
[edit] wait, i forgot theres more to deal with. you have to take the exhaust down pipe out and the shift linkages. nevermind. usually not worth it.
btw, im offering to do the labor for anyone else nearby in socal, specifically torrance/redondo beach. i finished working on reelizmpro's car, and he's very happy with his suspension and steering now.

I dunno. I would almost have to say that it would definetly be easier to just take the rack off. The DP, and shift linkage is just bolts/nuts. It should only take 5 minutes or so to get them off.
For me, the bushing was a complete PITA to get out. I had to drill out the 2 buttons because I couldn't get enough force on them to pop it out. Because the button at the front of the rack is 45 degrees from the plane of the car, it makes it a huge hassle to drill it out. It took me at least 45minutes to get the damn bushing out, and then probubly another 15 just to get the new one in. It took a lot of force to bend the buttons in to be able to clear the steering rack housing.
I think I could have saved at least a half hour if the rack was taken out.

I would definetly take it out to do it. Especially if you don't have a spare set of hands to help ya out.

well, the more you do it, the more tricks you figure out how to get that bushing in and out. it was a PITA the first time, but getting easier the more i do it.
i just need a sturdy pick and some needle nose pliers. push the button IN, and then to the side, then do the same to the other. then stick the pick in and pry it out. then putting it in just jame it in there. use leverage through the button holes to pry it in as well.

yeah its just me doing it for the first time, wish me luck, im leaning towards leaving the rack in.
does it say PITA when you type the b word?
edit: nevermind i get it pain in the a
