Default Severe lag. Is this turbo too big or is something else wrong? (GT2854R on DOHC ZC)

So, just as the title says, i just finished instaling a GT2854R (Info about turbo here: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/...9.htm) on my DOHC ZC. The car was not boosting at all with the wastegate atached, i would get about 1 psi all the way to the redline, so i went and gave it a shot to see if the wastegate was really closed. I tied it shut with metal wire. Now, i was guessing i would get about 15 psi in 2nd gear in no time, so i went at it real slow, just to see if it was boosting.

Heres the deal:
from 1000 to 4000 I get 1 psi
from 4000 to 5500 I get 5 psi
and from 5500 to 7200 it jumps quickly to 7 psi and there on creeps slowly to 9 psi.

THe wastegate is COMPLETELY shut, i tied it down very well.

So, am i just using the wrong turbo or do you think there might me something inside the turbo thats not letting it spool how it should.

I thought of that, but there is no damage to the piping and i've checked all the couplers a million times...

Engine is stock internally, well, it has a HKS 0.7mm Headgasket with about 10:1 compression and ARP head studs. DOHZ ZC's come stock on Si Sedan Civics here in venezuela, im runing a P29 computer (also came stock.) on the blue box temporally, crome is going to replace that in a couple of weeks.

I had a diferent turbo before (TD04) but i has a pretty different setup(that one held boost under the same engine specs), the things that have changed include manifold, part of the charge piping, BOV and DP.

If you turned up the boost to 15-20 psi the turbo will come alive

If the wastegate is held shut, wouldn't your turbo be taking the max amount of boost (ie. overspooling)?

lol ya someone needs to research some more on wastegates . What spring do you have? and have you checked the diaghram for any rips? What intercooler are you running? and what manifold?

Thats the deal, if there are no leaks, because i confirmed this and the wastegate is shut then why the f*ck doesnt boost start to go up like crazy.

This is the only GT28 that is internally wastegated, but when i said i tied it down i mean I held it with a piece of metal. BElive me it doesnt move at all.

Civic HF manifold and Modified DSM 1g intercooler

You have a leak somewhere. They can be a bitch to find sometimes. Once I had a rip up the side of the coupler that connected my charge pipe to my throttle body. The rip wasn't visible by visual inspection, only by bending the coupler did I see it.

Why would you say that???

This turbo's 'range' is commonly known to hae a roof of around 250/260 hp....

At 15 psi, this thing would probably be off the compressor map

You're not giving it much gas and looking for boost? If you don't give it a lot of throttle you won't build boost as much or at all.

Sounds like something is wrong with your wastegate perhaps?

Might have leaks in the charge piping/intercooler, exhaust system could be severely plugged up somewhere. Maybe try pulling off the downpipe and run it completely open. You should be building a lot more boost a lot faster. Also check if the turbo intake isn't blocked off too much, i heard of guys putting a rag around it to make a ghetto air filter and the car wouldn't boost much at all because of intake air restriction. Hope this helps

check for leaks between the head and the turbo.
