Just curious on people's opinion on a drag spool in a street car. The chassis is a street chassis and the setup puts out about 220hp with 154 tq. i am considering getting a spool cause i dont drive the car unless its to the track, its not a daily driver any more... Just a car to take to the track or the street races... any feedback is appreciated.
p.s. take into consideration the price difference between a spool and a LSD also, thats a big factor...

in your case.....
stout axles: spool
stock axles: LSD
I know what's supposed to happen when you break an axle with a spool, but am wondering if anybody has first hand experience with breaking an axle with a spool because most threads I read in teh past is mostly hearsay

If you do run a spool good luck driving the car to the track or anywhere, it gets to be a real pain with a spool. When you break an axle with a spool in get ready because the car will jerk and depending on how fast you're going it could be slight or major
Spools are great on the track. When I say on the track, that its. Pushing a spooled car around takes 3. We remove removing the drivers side axle when we we leave the track.
Never on the street unless your want to sound like tweedy bird every turn you make...chirp, chirp, chirp.

I cant see why not going with a spool if you only plan on using the car its going in for track use.
Goods of A spool:
50/50 power distribution to each axle
lighter then differential meaning you'll free up a few ponies and get more revolution to the wheels
Bads of spool:
No turning radius
When an axle breaks at high speeds u besta believe its gonna be an ugly ride

what do people mean it will be ugly when the axle breaks? would it not be the same with a limited slip because the axle would be spinning in the transmission, notice a slip and then lock up?
I am unfamiliar with spool's vs lsd's and i am interested in one for my car.... just trying to figure out what you mean it will be crazy compared to lsd when you bust an axle....
Thanks

there was a car at Las Vegas NHRA which broke an axle, and spun halfway down the track. he got VERY lucky he didn't hit the wall...

i run a spool in my hatch driving on the street is fine just hard turns and slow driving is a bitch and yes pushing the car is a bitch but if i had to choose i would grad an lsd
An LSD delivers power to the wheel with most traction right? so wouldn't that go crazy all over when an axle breaks as well?
And how would a spool that delivers power 50/50 all the time deliver 100% to the side that didn't break?

Candy I run a welded diff which is the same as a spool but heavier. Ive broken axles at launch and second gear. Its not that bad if your paying attention to what the hells going on. It breaks let off the gas and let the car slow itself down I never jerk the wheel or slam the breaks. Most time that ive broken one though the other wheels breaks loose and spin crazy but im holding the wheel so it goes over just a little for a split second.

Sounds like most folks are saying lsd cause it safer and more streetable. im still kinda stuck cause like i said, im not planning on dailying the car. It is going to be a drag car but a street car chassis and setup. Im going b series tranny adapter soon and that wont make it too fun for streetability anyway.. thats the situation so far. any more input anyone??
thanks in advanced....

i watched someone break an axle in 3rd or 4th gear at mir nopi this year car went hard right into the wall ....no way she could have stopped it was so fast
SPOOL
i ran my ef hatch with about the same power as you with a spool
i used it for street racing and track. dangerous never felt like i was going to die. i took on the freeway to about 130 just held on tight to the steering wheel. i did brake axles though, but they were completley stock. broke while i was turning at slow speeds and dragging ***** out. all you hear and feel is a big bang and the axle hitting your car while you slow down. it did kill my suspension though when the axle broke. the spool gave me great traction and i still run it on my car

Sounds like most folks are still telling me to go LSD. well then, as far as drag racing, anyone have any input on a stock gsr, itr, ctr LSD vs a quaiffe lsd? I have had a stock h22 lsd in my car and a quaiffe, the quaiffe felt much better over all but i was wondering if anyone compared an oem LSD to an aftermarket one. I want to know if its worth it to get an aftermarket LSD just for drag racing purposes.
Thanks in advance again...
