CRX awd possibilty
I got a 91 CRX and I swapped a JDM SOHC VTEC d15b, it runs fine and everything is cool. I was at teh junkyard and I noticed the CIVIC 5 door was AWD, is there anyway that I can swap trannys and drive shafts and put that AWD in my CRX. Has this every been attempted? has anyone done it? or does anyone know if its just a dream...
Ive seen it done on galants, mirages and super street did a AWD teg, i was hoping I could do an AWD D series in the REX

Someone with a CRX took the CR-V chassis, and welded or fabricated it on his CRX but i think it took alot of work to have it done. o yeah he was running on a B20 also not sure if it was a Z or B
Naw the crv uses B series
I am talking about eh EF civic, that looked like a van, I know there will need to be some custom work, but it would be **** if anybody ahd info on a swap like that. cause the CRV and civic use completely different ****

The guy took a CRX, and put a turboed b20 in it, and retro fitted the rear end of the CRV on it making it AWD. The AWD civic is ****, why? Because it's not AWD, do a search, and you'll find out more on that subject. Either way, the drive line for it would never handle much more power than the stock engine gives it. I would say you would be lucky to break 150 hp without breaking something else first.

^^^ Agreed, unless you have a shop, lots of spare time, a wrecked crv, and free everything. Otherwise, you would hate yourself when all is said and done.
i know a guy who did it to an eg hatch
cost about 7-8k when he was finished
its maiden voyage lasted about 5 miles
then it took a dump on him
one summer later it was repaired
total time on the road = less than 50 miles
then it broke again
ps it gets **** for gas mileage too
but madd props for customization!
good luck with your project
and dont try to make over 130-140 whp it will break.
oh and reverse never worked worth a damn either

There are a number of wagon owners that might take offense to your ignorant opinion. Unless you meant "the" ****.
1. Some of the 4WD Civics are, in fact, 4WD...not the real-time system you are referring to.
2. Do a search here and you'll find plenty of bad information on the subject. There is so little first hand knowledge and most of what is considered "information" is just rehashed opinion/speculation.
3. Since there are so few wagon owners, and even less 4WD wagon owners, you don't find many modified examples. There are a couple turbo'd examples and a jrsc owner that I'm aware of...none of which has problems with their 4WD system.
I personally have dohc zc with a high performance Weber carb. I'm making double the stock hp and the 4wd handles it like a champ.
You have to be sane in your power delivery...repeated 4 wheel burnouts will kill most 4wd systems, not just Hondas.
4. In a quest to squeeze 150 hp out of a D-series, you're last concern should be the 4wd system. Something else will go wrong first (and you can't consider the clutch/axles part of 4wd system).
BTW, I hate this topic. If you want more traction in your CRX, get a LSD.

That is so cool. I totally think you should do it to any of those cars. LEAVE THE CRX ALONE. What is it with people want to make it AWD? If you want AWD go buy it. Get a Civic wagon.

Not only that SEARCH there are tons of useless thread on this topic taking up valuable web space. I wonder how fast a AWD CRX could run over people wanting to build one?
If you hate the CRX SO much because it doesn't have AWD then sell it to someone that will take care of it and move over to a DSM. I would say Subaru but they probably wouldn't want you either. So there is one AWD CRX in the world please please leave it that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the 4WD Civics only put out something like 15% of their power to the rear wheels? It wouldn't be worth the cash, labor, weight. There are plenty off other more cost effective routes to take for better traction. A set of good tires, rims, traction bars, and a lsd to name some.

I think that's the real time awd that does that as the fronts slip. Which I was talking about being ****.

Unless you properly retro-fit it to the crx frame, then it will most likely blow up very quickly; another good reason not to do it.
Just buy the civic wagon for christ sake.
p.s. what is it with these posts today?

It is like a bad case of herpes, and they just keep coming back. No matter how much cream is spread, it just keeps coming back to annoy all parties involved.

I saw an AWD 2nd gen CRX once, but then I woke up terrified, screaming in a cold sweat.
Don't do it, it isn't worth the time or effort to ruin another CRX. Some people have already foolishly destroyed the 2nd Gen CRX with this type of pursuit, please don't join them. If you want AWD get the wagon, CRV or buy the new Ridgeline (that only comes AWD with auto, not a true 4wd setup).
