sup i have a b18c1 on a b16 trans in an EG civic and this thing is pissing me off...
ever turned your key while the engine was still running? thats the kind of noise my car is making even though my car isnt even on! it doesnt turn over and i dont feel like listening to that horrible noise anymore...
anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

 

Sounds like maybe your starter is done.....some people say hit it with a hammer then try to start it, but thats a little iffy...

So its like a loud grinding noise??
Maybe the starter solenoid...

 

yep i also think ur starter is gone too..

 

sounds like a starter to me, id have it rebuilt or buy new one but ive heard they can be expensive, have you accidnetally turned the key while its been on many times?? that gear that engauges might be chewed up to, take it out ran have someone test it or im pretty sure u can do it yourself just get some HEAVY gauge wire and run it off ur battery and see it is spins.

yeah it sounds like its grinding...it squeals pretty loud too

Also while your at your starter, check the mounting bolts, if they are loose, you could be just grinding at the flywheel teeth instead of engaging them. I know its a longshot, but might be worth your while.

 

that sucks man, I hope you get this solved. imo its the starter.

 

yea id say check the bolts first then go get your starter tested.
