My car is pouring mad smoke after it's ran for a few minutes, after oil pressure has dropped from running about 20 minutes, it still smokes, but not nearly as bad. I'm running an Autometer "Nitrous" restrictor before the turbo, i figured this would be plenty, but it's not. I don't want to restrict it too much, but i'm losing alot of oil because of this and it's getting worse and worse, the turbo only has 1,000 miles on it. I temporarily ran a clear tube for a drain, it's definately pouring too much oil through it, it fills the tube completely. I'll probably experiment with this clear tube again and maybe run the restrictor off the block, but looking for some input until i mess with that.

 

...check your drain to make sure its draining properly

also, take a close look at your pcv system...sounds like u could just have some positive crank case pressure thats forcing oil in the only direction it can go... the drain

to test this, start the car and let it run, then shut her down quick and pull the dipstick

loud PSH is bad.

i had oil POURING out of my DP before i fixed this problem... gotta reroute some vacuum lines (obd problem and lsvtec for pcv system)

i want to give my comment to this also... we build a lot of cars, all without oil restrictor in the oil feed line of the turbo without any problems. One time we had a problem of burning oil in the turbo because out oil return line was to small... put a bigger on it and everything was fine...

i was wondering why so much ppl use oil restrictors?!? are they realy needed?

maybe your engine has another problem and it's not only burning oil in the turbo?

I don't want to do a bigger drain, i finally got an oil pan sealed and a drain welded so it doesn't leak, the problem however happened when i got this final drain on (it is smaller). My PCV system is completely open, breather filter on the valve cover and one over the PCV valve.

Hi,

whats about the oil? did you have oil in your charge pipe or only out of the exhaust?
maybe that helps finding the source

can anyone tell me how big a -3an and -4an is in diameter in inches or mm?

I moved the restrictor to the back of the block, no more smoke, no more burnt oil smell on my clothes when i drive it.

I hope it's getting enough oil, i ran it hard and didn't bother with a clear tube to test.

 

i'm sure its fine.

 

Yup, seems to be getting plenty of oil, it's smoking again.
