speedometer doesn't always work
A 1990 Honda Accord EX automatic. Speedometer randomly quits working. Is there any way this problem can be fixed? Please give me some suggestions.
most likely u got a bad v.s. sensor but try something to diagnose,,,,,,,,,,first off, lets assume the fuse is ok because it works at times,,,,,,,,,go to v.s. sensor, unplug the 3 wires connector there should be a yellow, black and orange wires,,,,,,,.put the key on chk for voltage between yellow and black wire you should have close to 12 v. if no voltage u could have a bad black wire to ground , or a open in yellow wire,or bad fuse # 1 under dash fuse box ,,,,,,,if you got near 12 v.........now chk between black and orange u should have around 5 v.,,if not u could have a problem with the orange wire ,, try this and post results
deserthonda is right in that it's probably the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). I had the same problem in a 91 Accord manual. In my case, the Check Engine Light came on. If yours is on, check what code is being thrown -- it should be 17 if the problem is the VSS.
